Attivi dall'inizio del 1867 a Brighton, 68 East Street si specializzarono nel fotografare gruppi di persone all'aperto. Una pubblicità sul Brighton Guardian del 14 Agosto 1867 recita che essi posseggono "Special Apparatus for taking Out Door Pictures of School Groups, Cricket Elevens, Croquet Parties, Archery Meetings, Rifle Corps and Country Seats." Walter Fry e suo fratello minore, Allen Hastings Fry, si adottarono ben presto le lastre asciutte per aprofittare della maggior mobilità derivante dalla nuova tecnica. In un'intervista del giugno del 1916 pubblicata su 'The Professional Photographer' in cui Allen Hastings Fry fece una retrospettiva sulla sua lunga carriera fotografica in cui "photographed two hundred Public School Cadet and Officers' Training Corps", e "travelled over 9,000 miles during the year I was taking the photographs."
